Alex Amsel has been named associate conductor at the Phoenix Symphony.

Alex Amsel has been named associate conductor at the Phoenix Symphony. Prior to joining the Phoenix Symphony, where he will work with Music Director Tito Muñoz, the Argentinian-Mexican Amsel was resident conductor for the Houston Grand OperaHe spent three seasons as assistant conductor at the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, where led the orchestra in concerts including symphonic and education/outreach performances. Amsel participated in the 2020 and 2021 Aspen Conducting Academy and returned in 2022 as faculty and assistant conductor. Amsel has performed with orchestras at Aspen Music Festival, National Repertory Orchestra, Round Top Music Festival, and Philadelphia International Music Festival. As assistant conductor for the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, Colorado, Amsel led subscription concerts and young artist competition performances. Recent engagements include serving as assistant conductor and choir master for the Peabody Conservatory Symphonies, Opera Theatre, and Concert Choirs, as well as faculty conductor for the Philadelphia International Music Festival. Amsel holds a Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting from the Peabody Conservatory.
